Kate at 1 day old
Unfortunately, Kate was born with a rare disease known as "Joker Smile Syndrome." When she strong enough, she will undergo major corrective surgery. Since Kate is the first victim of this disease to survive past 2 days, she will be the first specimen to have this surgery. She will also be the subject of a photo essay wherein her progress with the disease and its surgical cure and recovery will be documented and published on the web.The surgery will be difficult, but we have one of the best surgeons on staff, and I feel confident that she will come through this with a new nose and mouth that will allow her to lead a normal life long into old age.
