2008-04-02 . 7:17 p.m. - The Stranger's Funeral
«rusted & used . shiny & new»
So I went to a funeral yesterday. It was for Neutron's co-worker's widow. In other words: Neutron had a co-worker who died a few years ago and his widow passed away this weekend. We went to the funeral along with a few of his other co-workers and I was appalled to see that we were actually over-dressed. I was wearing a nice black blouse with black pants and he wore a charcoal grey suit. The guy in front of me was wearing a black t-shirt that looked like it'd been turned inside out (I later saw that that was indeed the style and there was an intricate pattern on the front). There was a woman two rows in front of me wearing a bluetooth earpiece. Have some fucking respect, people. I barely knew the woman and I had the decency to leave my ratty purse in the car. Meanwhile, someone whom I can only assume was close to her was ready to make and/or take a phone call at a moment's notice. About 15 minutes into the service, a family of 4 came in and the 2 kids would not shut up. The parents were barely trying to keep them in line. By the way, if the guy with the ponytail, inside-out t-shirt, and dragon tat glares at you because your kids are being unruly at a funeral, THAT'S how you know that you've fucked up and failed as parents.
Here's another shitty thing about the funeral (as if having to face my own mortality as well as the mortality of all my loved ones wasn't enough): the religion/heaven/after-life issue was just SHOVED down our throats EVEN THOUGH the deceased was a known atheist (she and Neutron had had a few discussions about this fact in the past). I guess the bitch with the blue tooth is kind of off the hook after that level of douche-baggery.
