My buddy "I" has started a blog. I won't give his real name because he's staying anonymous. Anyway, here's the URL: http://first-year-teaching.blogspot.com/. He's a great writer, so be sure to check it out; you won't be disappointed.
...
I had a crazy dream last night that I got a letter in the mail telling me that I had to go back to high school to finish up a few credits. The crazy part was that I was actually excited to go back. I don't remember much else about the dream ... except that Neutron dropped me off at the school and I left my backpack, purse, and consequentially cellphone in his car. I also vaguely remember blowing up at my band director because he asked me what I was doing for a living now and when I told him that I was a "computer programmer" he said "No, I mean what do you DO; I didn't ask about your hobby." I took this as him misunderstanding me and thinking that I was talking about blogging. I yelled at him that I don't just write blog entries; that I actually write the code behind web applications. I continued to rant "Sure, sometimes I write a blog or two, but that's not what I get paid to do. Oh, and you can bet your ASS I'll be blogging about this." Shortly after that, he morphed into Steve Carell and I threw a bottle of water at his head. I think this part of the dream stems from an idea that I've had floating around in my head for a few weeks now: I'm a hack ... and I've tricked a lot of people into believing in me and my supposed abilities. There are people out there that are much better programmers than me and when I get a compliment on my work, I feel like I don't deserve it. And I think "If they only knew how much better I could be if I'd actually concentrated on theory and not just 'getting stuff to work.'" I don't really know what else I can say about that. I'll just let that sink in.
